January Torisms

“Mom, I need some tape,” Tori says as she’s holding a red and white soccer ball. Of course I’m curious so I ask her why. She answers, “because I want to make Baby Siah the Little Mushroom Guy from the driving game.” It takes me a moment but I realize what she wants to do… she was planning to tape the soccer ball to Siah’s head to make him look like Toad on Mario Cart. She thinks he is cute. See the picture... he has a red and white mushroom type head. She’s so cleaver. I wish I could say I let her try… but I didn’t. It sure would’ve been funny though. Secretly, I hope she tries and succeeds but I can’t in good conscience encourage that.

Mom, I need something to put in my panties to have a tail like Tigger. I offered her a ribbon which she refused and said, “I’m making something.” A moment later she shows up with a lego tail she made and placed proudly in her panties. Of course it fell out a few seconds later and broke apart. We had to come up with another solution. I offered to tie a scarf around her waist... she refused around her waist though and promptly stuck it into her panties. Um, not exactly what I was thinking but she was happy.

Not Tori’s ism but someone else’s … We were at the beach and this little girl of about 5 starts to play with Tori. A few minutes later some high school age girls in bikinis set up their towels behind us. The little girl looks up and says, "oh, hot chicks. My daddy loves hot chicks. I should go tell him." And she runs over to her family. I was shocked! It was funny and disturbing. Later that night at dinner Jeff and I are joking about it and we said something about hot guys on the beach… Tori starts to laugh and says, “silly Daddy, there weren’t hot guys on the beach, they had their sunscreen on.”

While watching the news a couple days after the inauguration- “Barack Obama is my favorite… Barack, rhymes with rock and she continues to say his name over an over.”

Girl vs Boy

As I try to write this post I am dealing with the differences between girls and boys. Princess Tori is in her castle and Josiah is trying to destroy it. When he is not "bugging" her, he's hammering me. Yes, he's been walking around my chair and hammering on my arms. He thinks it is hilarious. The problem is... his laugh makes me laugh so he doesn't take me serious when I tell him to stop. Who decided to make a wooden hammer with square edges?... probably someone that has only daughters. This was Tori's toy first and I was never hammered with it. He has even hammered my head once, OUCH! His mouth is wide open in this photo because as usual, he is yelling. I do love my boy though.
Here's my girl. She already loves lipstick and playing dress up. She sure didn't get that from me. Um, she didn't get that from her Daddy either... just in case anyone is confused by that last comment. Thanks Mimi and Papa for the tent. The little monkeys love it.

We think Josiah has the coolest hair ever. He just got his 3rd haircut and it looks adorable. Thanks Ginger!

This little guy loves bath time.

Home Preschool

I've started home preschool for Tori and she LOVES it! I'm hoping that she'll go to Mt. Hermon in the Fall but for now, she doesn't want to. I'm afraid she gets that from me. I hated preschool... yes, I still remember it. Mom didn't make me continue and I've always been grateful for that fact. Tori loves learning though and since she's such a logical child she gave me some well thought out arguments about why she didn't want to go. She did say she wanted to do school at home though. So, right now she is watching Word World (great PBS cartoon). We get the word or letter of the day from that show and then I plan our lesson around it. She really enjoys finger painting the letters and numbers. I'm also trying to take advantage of all the learning opportunities throughout the day. Oh, she just learned the letter S. Time to start school.

Really... it is January

We spent Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday at the beach this week... LOVE the weather! Planning to go this weekend as well. My Mom and Dad got the kids this big red wagon. It's been fun taking it to the beach.

Samson loves the beach too.

Yum, Siah actually likes to lick the sand.

Arizona Vacation

On the day after Christmas we flew to Arizona to enjoy a week with Jeff's family. We were at his parents home in Prescott for the first half of our trip. We had a great time visiting. One of the days we played in the snow. Here are some pictures of that fun adventure- Family fun in the snow. Last year Josiah was too young to enjoy the snow. This year he LOVED it.

Snowball fight. Everyone got into it.

Josiah eating snow. It was so funny to watch him. He'd spit out his paci and come up with a mouth full of snow.

Our little snow angels. Josiah wanted to copy Tori so he laid right down and this is what he did...

Shelley's boyfriend Scott gave us all tickets to Zoo Lights for Christmas. Thanks Scott... it was a lot of fun. There were tons of light decorations. They were even in sync with the music. Tori loved seeing the elephant.Tori and Auntie Shelley had fun making a gingerbread house- Yummy!

We celebrated Jeff's New Year's Day birthday. Mom made his favorite poppy seed cake. Great Grandma, Aunt Diane, and Uncle Randy with family all came over too. It was great to see everyone. Thanks for the fun vacation! We miss you all.

Christmas at Home

I am so behind in posting Christmas pictures ... I'm still sorting through a few hundred of them. Here are just a few highlights. We had a great Christmas! Tori's favorite song this year was Little Drummer Boy. We sang it together all season long. I love hearing her little voice. She really did learn the words and we're still singing it even though it's the middle of January. (ahhh...she's singing it right now.)
Our stockings are filled by Santa... he only gets credit for the little things in our family. We don't really focus on Santa but Tori's into it, so we play along. For Tori and Josiah's main present we made a train board. We collected parts and trains from friends (thank you sooo much) and Craig's List to make this fun board. Josiah immediately climbed into the middle of it and proceeded to remove anything that wasn't glued down. It slides under the couch when not in use. We really felt like we were in Santa's workshop while we were making it. We'd sneak out to the carport each evening after the kids went to sleep and work. It was freezing outside so we'd come in and warm up with hot cocoa.

Our Christmas morning tradition is to enjoy a nice breakfast together... we make Monkey Bread the night before and bake it while we are opening presents. It fills the house with the delicious smells of cinnamon. We put a candle in it and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus before enjoying.

We then went to my parents home in Corralitos to have Christmas with my family. My brother Jason and his family were in town from Colorado. It was so nice being able to spend time with all of them. (Luke and Ann Helen were in Norway this year... we of course missed them.) It was a beautiful day so we went for a walk up the hill, opened tons of presents, and had a wonderful dinner together.

We got a Wii from my parents & Jeff's parents for a combined Christmas/Birthday gifts. We are having so much fun playing it almost every night. We also got Mario Cart and the Fit Board. It's good to feel like a kid again. As soon as the kids go to sleep we get to play... we love boxing each other... I do pretty well and it's a great workout.

T'was the night before Christmas

Heading out for Christmas Eve service-

Tried to take pictures without the paci...put it back immediately!

Our Family tradition is to go out to Chinese food for Christmas Eve dinner. It's a yummy and easy tradition.

We missed Luke and Ann Helen
Stockings are full and hung on the bookcase with care, presents are out...it's time for visions of sugar plums (what is a sugar plum anyway?) Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.
